Spec the pairing as one design system, not two purchases
Biggest efficiency win on trophy-and-medal events: treat the pairing as one design system, not two purchases.
Three rules to spec cleanly:
1. Shared visual language
- Same logo treatment (vector reproduced clean across both pieces)
- Same colour family — gold, silver, bronze finish on metal medals matched to gold-engraved acrylic or crystal cups
- Consistent gold-tone — antique gold on the medal shouldn't pair with mirror-gold on the cup
- Same engraving font on both
The recipient who lifts a finisher medal and sees the champion lift the cup should feel they're at the same event.
2. Tier ratio matched to format
| Event type | Typical trophy + medal mix |
|---|---|
| Marathon or larian | 1-3 winner cups plus 500-2,000 finisher medals |
| School sports day | 1 house champion cup, 4 house plaques, 250-400 medals |
| MSSM tournament | 1 perpetual cup plus 50-200 medals per season |
| Corporate kickoff | 1 top-achiever cup plus 10-30 recognition medals |
| Corporate golf | Challenge cup, novelty prizes, and podium medals |
3. Bulk-medal pricing brackets
- 50 pieces: RM 18-30 each
- 500+: RM 10-18
- 1,000+: RM 8-15
Cups stay relatively flat at RM 150-700 per piece — they're produced one by one. Get the medal volume right and the per-event total drops sharply. One combo brief also means one proof round, one quote, and one landed delivery.
Marathons and larian — winners cup plus finishers medals
Marathons are the cleanest trophy-and-medal brief.
Standard spec:
- 1 or 3 champion cups (overall winner, age-group winner, charity-cause winner)
- 500-2,000 finishers medals depending on event size
Common Malaysian marathon pairing:
- Winners cup: CNC-cut acrylic shape with the marathon logo silhouette (RM 350-700)
- Finishers medals: die-cast metal with custom mould featuring the route silhouette, year, and event branding
- Mould setup: RM 1,500-3,500 one-off
- Per-medal: RM 12-25 at 1,000+ units
- Ribbon: event colours
For first-year events on a tight budget: stock-shape die-cast medals with custom centre-disc inlay land at RM 10-18 each at 500+. Same look, no mould setup.
Lead time coordination matters:
- Custom-mould medals: 4-6 weeks
- CNC cups: 10-14 days
Our workflow: start the medal mould first, finalise cup design in parallel, ship both for landed delivery 5-7 days before race day.

School sports days and MSSM tournaments
School sports days are the most common Malaysian trophy-and-medal brief by volume.
Typical SK or SMK Hari Sukan spec:
- House champion cup: RM 200-450 (acrylic or metal)
- Tier medals across track, field, team-game, and house-overall categories
- Gold-silver-bronze across age groups Tahun 1-6 or Tingkatan 1-5 — multiplies fast
A medium-sized SK with 600 pupils typically orders:
- 1 main house cup
- 4 house-runner-up plaques
- 250-400 medals across the day
MSSM zone, district, and state tournaments add:
- Perpetual cups (RM 600-1,500 with annual brass plates)
- Tier medals per sport
Bulk medal pricing brackets:
- 50-99 pieces: RM 18-30 each
- 100-499: RM 12-22
- 500-999: RM 10-18
- 1,000+: RM 8-15
Cups stay relatively flat at RM 150-700 per piece.
We supply many MSSM districts and PIBG sports days — design once, produce annually with a year-update on the brass plates.
See our sports day trophy and medal planning guide and MSSM trophy supplier blog for the full pattern.
Corporate sales kickoffs and tournament-format events
Corporate sales kickoffs and tournament-format events use the pairing differently from sports events.
Sales kickoff spec:
- 1 signature top-achiever cup: RM 450-1,200 (crystal or pewter centrepiece for the sales rep of the year)
- 10-30 recognition medals or pins for regional top performers, top-performer-by-product, fastest-rising rep, etc.
Tournament-format events (corporate badminton, golf, futsal):
- Perpetual cup: RM 500-1,500 (with annual brass plates for repeat events)
- Per-tournament tier medals (champion, runner-up, semi-finalist): 30-100 medals per event
Corporate golf in particular runs a heavy cup-and-medal mix. See our golf trophy suppliers KL guide for the pattern.
Shared visual language matters even more for corporate events than for sports. Your sales rep who lifts the top cup is the same person who, three years later, hands that same cup to their successor on stage.
Design consistency across the cup, the medals, and any supporting plaques pays off across the program lifetime. We package the combined order under one quote with coordinated lead time.
Lead time coordination — backward planning from event day
Most common operational drama on trophy-and-medal events: medals shipping a week after the cup, or vice versa. Two sides quoted on separate timelines from two different suppliers.
We coordinate so both land together — usually 5-7 working days before event date so you have buffer for distribution, pre-sorting by category, and mid-event adjustments.
Reference timelines from artwork sign-off:
- Stock-design medals: 5-7 working days
- Custom-mould medals first run: 4-6 weeks (mould fabrication 4-5 weeks, then 1 week production)
- Custom-mould medals annual repeat: 2-3 weeks (mould on file)
- CNC-cut acrylic cups: 10-14 working days
- Etched crystal cups: 10-14 days
- Pewter cups: 2-6 weeks
Standard mixed brief workflow (custom-mould medals + CNC acrylic cup):
- Week 1: start medal mould, finalise cup design in parallel
- Weeks 1-2: cup design lock-in
- Weeks 3-4: produce cups
- Weeks 4-6: produce medals
- Week 6: ship together, arrival 7-10 days before event
Tight brief (4 weeks total): drop to stock-design medals plus stock cup with custom engraving. Honest call on what's feasible, not magic.

Plan the medal side before pairing it with trophies
Before you lock a cup-and-medal bundle, check the Bahasa Malaysia contoh medal sukan planner. It helps schools and sports organisers choose medal material, size, finish, ribbon colour, engraving scope, quantity buffer and packing workflow before the trophy-and-medal quote is combined.
