The vocabulary that turns up on WhatsApp briefs every working day — materials, engraving methods, honorifics, procurement instruments, sector-specific acronyms. Plain-English definitions, no gatekeeping.

None of it is gatekept on purpose — it's just specialist language that nobody bothers to define publicly. So we did.

A

Acrylic: Cast or extruded plastic resin used for trophies, plaques, and medals. Cast acrylic is harder, clearer, and more premium than extruded; iTrophy uses cast acrylic for trophies and plaques. UV-printed or laser-engraved.
Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (APC): BM-language formal recognition framework used in Malaysian state-government, federal civil service, and statutory bodies. The annual ceremony recognises long-service tier completion and outstanding service.

B

Brass nameplate: Thin engraved brass plate mounted onto a trophy or plaque base — the standard finish for wooden corporate plaques. Engraved by rotary or laser.
Brem Park: Office complex in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur where iTrophy's studio is located. Address: 01-00-06 Brem Park, Off Jalan Kuchai Lama. Studio + showroom + dispatch — not a public retail counter.
Bulk MOQ (10× wood): Minimum order quantity of 10 pieces for wood-bodied plaques and trophies — a real partner-workshop constraint at iTrophy, not a sales tactic. Wood pieces also add ~1 week of lead time vs crystal/acrylic.

C

CMYK: Print colour model — Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key (black). Use CMYK references when briefing UV-print artwork. Pantone is the alternative reference for exact-colour matching.
CNC cut: Computer-controlled machining used to cut acrylic and wood into custom shapes. Used at iTrophy for custom-cut acrylic trophies (2-3 week lead time).
Custom mould: New tooling commissioned to cast a one-of-a-kind trophy form (resin or metal). 2-6 week lead time including tooling. Cost amortises across repeat-year orders, so year 2+ on annual programmes is cheaper per unit.

D

Datuk / Datin: Malaysian state-conferred honorific titles. Datuk is conferred on men, Datin on the wife of a Datuk. Variants include Datuk Seri (federal), Datuk Wira, Datuk Patinggi (Sarawak).
Die-cast medal: Zinc-alloy or iron medal cast from custom mould (premium tournament finish, RM12-60 each, 6-8 week lead time for custom mould). Die-cast pieces have raised relief and feel substantial in the hand.

E

Engraving (laser): Surface laser burn into acrylic, wood, anodised metal or leather. Mono colour, fast turnaround. Different from inner laser (sub-surface 3D etching used on crystal).
Engraving (rotary): Mechanical cutting of metal nameplates with a rotating tool. Used for brass and pewter nameplates. Slower than laser but gives a deeper cut suitable for paint-fill.

H

Hari Anugerah Cemerlang: Annual Malaysian school speech-day ceremony recognising top students across academics, sports, character, and prefects (pengawas). PIBG committees coordinate procurement.
HRD Corp: Human Resource Development Corporation — Malaysian agency overseeing TVET and corporate training. HRD Corp funds support TVET academy graduations.

I

Inner laser: Sub-surface 3D etching inside an optical crystal block. Reads as frosty white from any angle. Used at iTrophy for crystal recognition pieces. Cannot reproduce colour.

J

Jata negeri: Malaysian state coat of arms (e.g. Jata Selangor, Jata Pahang). Used on state-government recognition pieces, Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang awards, royal-ceremony pieces.
Jawi: Arabic-derived script historically used to write Malay. Available at iTrophy for state-government, mosque kariah, and royal-ceremony engraving. Strongest tradition in Kelantan and Terengganu.

K

Kariah: BM term for a mosque congregation/parish committee. Kariah committees order long-service awards for committee members, kelas Quran teachers, tahfiz instructors.
Kraftangan: BM for traditional handicraft. Malaysian states with strong kraftangan industries (Kelantan kain pelangi, Terengganu songket) commission guild-association recognition pieces.

L

LO (Local Order / Pesanan Tempatan): Malaysian state-government procurement instrument. iTrophy accepts LO and issues tax-compliant invoices under ITROPHY BROTHERS PLT (registration 202504003677, LLP0045203-LGN).
LTI-free: Lost-Time-Injury-Free — industrial safety milestone. Pieces commissioned to mark X days/months/years/man-hours without an LTI. Particularly important in petrochemical, plantation, and heavy-industry sectors.

MSSD / MSSN / MSSM: Malaysian inter-school sports tournaments. MSSD = Majlis Sukan Sekolah Daerah (district level). MSSN = Negeri (state). MSSM = Malaysia (national). Each level has its own medal/trophy procurement cycle.

O

Optical crystal: Premium lead-free crystal — heavier than crystal glass, with superior clarity. Used for senior-tier corporate recognition. Sourced from established suppliers; iTrophy does not cut crystal in Malaysia.

P

Pantone: Colour reference system used for brand-exact colour matching. When briefing UV-print artwork, send Pantone references for brand consistency.
Pewter: Tin-based alloy with Malaysian heritage industry context. Heavier and more formal than crystal at the same size. Used for senior corporate recognition (20-30 year long-service, board, founder retirement, royal ceremony).
PIBG: Persatuan Ibu Bapa & Guru — Malaysian school parent-teacher association. PIBG committees coordinate procurement for school sports day, Hari Anugerah Cemerlang, and prefect awards.
Polyfoam packaging: Protective foam padding used for shipping crystal, pewter, and other heavy/fragile pieces. iTrophy uses double-boxed polyfoam for nationwide and East Malaysia courier shipments.
Pos Laju / J&T: Malaysian standard parcel couriers. iTrophy uses both for nationwide delivery — 1-3 days west Malaysia, 5-7 days East Malaysia (cargo flight).

R

Resin trophy: Cast plastic-resin trophy in standard tower / sport-figure shapes. Affordable (RM15-50 each) and good for school sports day, charity events, residents association events.

S

Sublimation print: Heat-and-pressure dye process used for printing full-colour images on ribbons, fabric, and certain hard surfaces. Used for school/event ribbon printing; 7-10 day lead time vs same-day plain ribbons.

T

Tahfiz: BM/Arabic for Quran-memorisation school. Tahfiz instructors and pelajar are recognised at mosque/community events; iTrophy supplies appropriate engraved pieces.
Tan Sri / Tun: Senior Malaysian federal-conferred honorific titles. Tan Sri is the second-highest (after Tun). Strict spelling and capitalisation required on engraving.
TVET: Technical and Vocational Education and Training. Malaysian TVET institutions include IKBN, ILP, ILKA, IKM, polytechnics. Graduation recognition pieces are a regular order at iTrophy.

U

UV print: Ultraviolet-cured ink printed onto trophy or plaque surface. Reproduces full-colour CMYK including gradients and photo logos. Surface-only — not as durable as engraving for high-handling pieces.

V

Vector file (.ai/.eps/.svg): Scalable graphics file format used for cleanest engraving and printing. Send vectors when briefing — PNG works at high resolution but vector is always better.

W

WebP: Modern image format with ~30% better compression than JPG. iTrophy serves WebP across the site for performance, with JPG fallback.

Y

Yang Berbahagia / Yang Berhormat: BM honorific prefixes for senior dignitaries. Yang Berbahagia precedes Tan Sri / Datuk Seri / Datuk; Yang Berhormat (YB) precedes Member-of-Parliament-style titles.
